Writing for the Media Final Portfolio – Megan Watkins

Business Writing Assignment

These assignments were beneficial because of their purpose in my future career. I got to cultivate a resume and cover letter, that have been now been edited to perfection. Provided above is a look at some of the major edits I made to my resume and cover letter. I look forward to using these two tools in the future. Above I have linked both copies of my resume and cover letter before and after edits. Enjoy!

Informative Writing Assignment

I enjoyed putting this paper together because of its personal ties. For this assignment we were given the opportunity to choose our topic, and write a news release style selection. I chose to cover children of divorce, and the repercussion’s of divorce. There were many edits to be made to this assignment, especially attribution. This assignment taught me what a news release looks like, as well as how to write one.

Strategic Writing Assignment

This assignment was to write a press release over an upcoming topic of your choice. I chose to cover the upcoming opening and construction of the Lubbock Aquarium. I enjoyed this assignment for its concise and simple format. This assignment let me have some fun and pick a newsworthy story myself. Linked above is my final press release and some notes made throughout the process.

Advertising Writing Assignment

This assignment was my favorite to write throughout this semester. The assignment was to write a strategic message planner for a product of our choice. I chose to outline the YETI Rambler-Tumbler, and its usage. I enjoyed putting the strategic message planner together because of its take on advertising. I am an advertising minor and enjoy using different techniques to appeal to all types of audiences. Linked above is one copy of this selection accompanied with comments.

Narrative Writing Assignment

This assignment touched home as I chose to cover a family story about my grandad, Al. This assignment was to write a narrative over simply anything. I made a few edits from the comments linked above, such as a grammatical error. This story follows Al and his grandson Johnny on their drive to Oklahoma City. Some light hearted tattle-tailing made into a great narrative that I loved writing. Enjoy!
